Durango Colorado Real Estate Growth

Real Estate Growth in Durango, Colorado, La Plata County, and Southwest Colorado continues to take shape as a significant increase in applications for development has been submitted to the La Plata County Planning Commission. Proposals for development in 2018 are 13 projects with over 1,000 acres compared to a total of 11 with 700 acres between 2013 and 2017. There was an article in the Denver Post in 2015 that projected population growth for the state of Colorado, it projected that Durango could have a 150 percent population increase by the year 2050. The La Plata County Commission has been in the planning stages of Land Use Codes, so that is one reason we see a significant increase in development applications. Besides that fact, Durango has been growing significantly over the past few years. Since 2010, the county has averaged about 700 to 800 new residents per year; the population increased from 51,334 to 55,623 in 2016. According to the most recent data available, 935 new residents moved into the area from 2015 to 2016.
